Purpose of travel: A week long skiing trip booked with Crystal Ski, guesthouse accommodation was allocated by Crystal Ski on arrival in Zell am See.||||The Good: Our room was pretty good, simple, nice and warm with ample space and a private bathroom. The tv was a small crt with all german channels but that didn't bother us. It was quiet at night and with reasonably comfortable beds. Location was good with about a 15 min walk to the town center and about a 5 to 10 min walk to the no. 71 ski shuttle bus. The boot room had good space and was well heated so our ski boots could dry out over night.||||The Bad: We arrived late in the evening but on time as per our package operator's schedule. The owner gave us a brief introduction to the accommodation, basically, here is the apartment, these are your keys for the week - good luck! It has a bar, but it's opening hours are not set, and from what we could see on arrival, it was filled with smoke from the single occupant at the time, (the owner), which made it very unattractive. Breakfast was the same every morning, typical continental: with 2 bread rolls, some luncheon roll slices, cheese slices, some marmalade and a single cup of tea or coffee. Overall it seemed the breakfast was put together with minimum effort and minimum expense. On departure we had to get an early taxi at 7:00 am., it was clear that no breakfast was going to be available with a statement from our host, "I won't be here". Also it is advisable to bring your own toilet paper, we were left without any for one day and there was no room servicing on our last day.||||The Ugly: We dealt with two people at the guesthouse, the owner and another person, the owner seemed to be a nice man and would briefly engage in light chat whenever we met him. However most of our dealings were with the other host, she served breakfast and serviced the rooms. I can honestly say, after 15 years of traveling and staying in all sorts of accommodation, I have only come across one other hostess who was her equal. On the 2nd morning she followed us out from the breakfast room and proceeded to shout at us. ||We managed to pickup on the source of her anger with our limited German. It was that our room was untidy and she couldn't clean it, naturally very taken a back, we just said "ok ok" a number of times to calm her down and bring the situation to an end. We weren't aware that there was a room tidiness policy. Regardless it has always been my experience that once you pay for your room, you can have it as untidy as you like as long as you give it back in the same condition as when you received it. We returned to our room and got our Ski gear together only to then hear loud knocking on the door, we didn't answer it. A few minutes later while leaving for the bus, the owner came to us to inform us that we should put our Ski boots in the heated boot room rather than bringing them into our own room. Again no one had told us this, we had only been informed to use the boot room, it turned out that there were two rooms, one for the skis and one, (heated), for the boots. As the skis room had no heating, we had decided to bring the ski boots to our room to dry them. It should be noted however, that he was cordial and there was no problem with the request. Later that evening after we had returned from skiing, we met the owner while leaving for dinner, I informed him that my wife and I had been upset by the morning's bashing over the untidy room. He said don't take any notice of her, (other host). Er.. that is not so easy when we had to face a frosty reception from her for breakfast each morning, not knowing if we had stepped out of line again. On the last day we witnessed her in a screaming match with guests from another guesthouse about leaving a gate opened, again not pleasant. Actually we felt lucky, compared to these other guests we got off lightly!!||||Conclusion: This is a simple guesthouse where you can lay your head and get a basic breakfast but make sure to keep your room tidy. Notwithstanding, I have not been spoken to like that since I was in school, it was very upsetting for my wife and having to walk on egg shells for the rest of the week took a lot from our holiday. With the attitude of the host, I cannot recommend this guesthouse and will not be staying here again when I return to Zell am See. Surely there is a far better welcome to be had else where.

The worst experience one may encounter when arriving at night,after a long flight and an even longer ride,the owner,although forewarned about the late arrival,doesn't want to open the door.When,finally,after phone negociations,she opened the door,she didn't want to let us have the rooms we booked.||The breakfast in the morning was terrible,the attitude rude and after two nights when we moved to a normal hotel she overpriced us.
